Vickie Jo Franks uses 21st century materials (natural and manufactured) to assemble folk inspired angels, animals and plants. Her recent work involves gathering related materials, including purchased art supplies, recycled materials and nature objects, and assembling them in two and three dimensional folk images. Angels and animals are the most frequent subject matter and carry these messages- Please Spay and Neuter Your Pets and Do Not Litter Our Highways, Byways and Waterways.
Vickie knows her work is important and it has a spiritual connection that transcends time and place. Her work is connected to her own history in NC folk life and possesses an appreciation of various culture's folk work. Her work represents a resourceful and creative approach to recycling and reusing that is a part of all cultures past, present and future.
Vickie holds a BA in Art with advanced studies in art, psychology and religion and is very proud of her hard work to achieve her education. Every September, she exhibits her Folk Cats to support local and world efforts to stop rabies.
